1. Signed American Language Classroom Agreement + How to avoid and plagiarizing

Students can avoid cheating and plagiarizing by managing their time well and studying early instead of waiting until last minute (I need to work on that). They should also make sure to write in their own words and give credit when using someone else's ideas. If they do not undestand something, they can ask the teacher or use school resources for help. Practicing honesty is important because it helps them really learn and do better in the future.

American Language Writing Class Agreement

I will do my own work.

  • This means that I will not copy writing from another source. I will not use work that either I or someone I know has previously submitted. I will not pay anyone to do my work for me. I will not have a family member or friend (or paid service!) do my work for me. Engaging in this behavior is academic dishonesty. This behavior does not allow me to learn or grow as a writer, as a student, or as a person.

  • I acknowledge that I will complete my writing in the allotted time during weeks 1, 2 and 6.
  • I acknowledge that I will complete all of my assignments on my own (except for team work).

I will ask questions if I have any because I know that asking questions is how everyone learns.

I will follow the schedule and submit my work on time because I know that the schedule has been set up to allow me to build my skills as I go forward. If I have an issue, I will contact my teacher or my team to seek help right away.

I will use the appropriate college resources to help me achieve my goals.

I will try my best on all of my work.

I will use a growth mindset for this class.

  • This means that I will make mistakes but I will try to learn from them. I may fail some assignments, but I will become a stronger writer because of this. It means that I know that I am not perfect, but I will get better with effort. It means that I will try my best, and sometimes I will be frustrated. But in the end, I will learn more than I ever thought I could.

I, ____________Alessandra Medrano________________, have enrolled in this American Language writing class, and by signing up for this class, I acknowledge that my goal is to improve my reading, writing and communication skills. Therefore, I agree to each of the following things listed above. I am ready for a challenger.

5. Office Hours/Student Hours

I finally got to meet with Loisa so she could help me review my draft for Paper 3. It was a very rewarding experience because I was able to understand how to improve my writing. I wish I had gone to more tutoring sessions with her, since I understood things much better in person. I had a great experience with Loisa, and also with Professor Lee (I don’t have a photo with her), but both sessions were very positive. I never felt judged for my accent; in fact, they both made me feel very comfortable, and I learned a lot. By the way, at the end of the session, they were giving out free salad lol!
